Affordable MSN in Nursing Education Programs Online in Oklahoma

There are plenty of reasons for registered nurses to pursue their Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) in Nursing Education degree. Higher earning potential, opportunities in leadership roles, a longer career in nursing and opportunities to become an influencer in healthcare are just a few.

However, some nurses perceive tuition costs as the biggest obstacle to this career path. In reality, there are a variety of affordable MSN in nursing education programs if you know where to look. Even better, many of these programs are offered fully online, allowing for flexibility and convenience — which is especially helpful for nurses who are currently working in the field.

Here’s a breakdown of a few Oklahoma-based institutions offering online MSN in nursing education programs.

Oklahoma Wesleyan University (OKWU)

Oklahoma Wesleyan University offers both online-only and “on-ground” or on-campus MSN in nursing education programs. The program consists of 33 credit hours: 12 core courses and another 21 dedicated to specialized courses in nursing education. The cost is $530 per credit hour, whether taken online or on-ground, for a total of $17,490 in tuition.

Additional fees apply, ranging from a one-time registration fee to the per-credit-hour educational resource fee. Keep in mind that the OKWU program only allows students to take one course per eight-week term due to the “academic rigor of the nursing program.” While this might appeal to some nurses, others would like a more rapid progression.

Oklahoma Baptist University (OBU)

You can complete Oklahoma Baptist University’s MSN in nursing online program in as few as 18 months, a slightly shorter duration than OKWU. However, these classes are designed to be taken one at a time. Thirty-five credit hours are required to complete the degree at OBU, with a cost of $550 per credit hour and a total of $19,250.

Oral Roberts University (ORU)

Oral Roberts University’s MSN in nursing education online program is 34.5 credit hours, which can be completed in 24 months when enrolled full time. The school considers “full-time enrollment” as taking one three-credit hour course over a seven-week term, at six terms per year.

Cost is $450 per credit hour, totaling $15,525. This does not include an online student service fee of $199 per term which, for a full-time student, would be an additional $2,388 for the duration of the program.

Northeastern State University (NSU)

You can complete Northeastern State University’s MSN in Nursing Education online program in as few as 12 months. The program consists of 32 credit hours, costing $370.40 per credit hour for in-state tuition (for an $11,852.80 total program cost).

While some schools hike up out-of-state tuition, NSU only adds one dollar to the per credit hour rate for out-of-state rates — $371.40 for each credit hour — for a total program cost of $11,884.80. All fees are included in these amounts. NSU also offers a pay-by-course option for students, lessening financial burden.
