Applicants to the Northeastern RN to MSN in Nursing Informatics online program must have:

Admission Requirements:

  • Current, unencumbered RN license
  • Associate degree in nursing
  • Bachelor’s degree in a non-nursing field
  • Cumulative 2.5 GPA on undergraduate coursework or 3.0 GPA on nursing coursework

  • A completed application
  • An associate degree in nursing
  • A bachelor's degree in a non-nursing field
  • A current, unencumbered RN license (submitted to Graduate Admissions)
  • Completion of NURS 3003 Professional Nursing Role; NURS 3053 Health Assessment; and NURS 4115 Community Health Nursing with grades of “C” or better in each course
  • Completion of an approved statistics and research course with grades of “C” or better
  • Formal admission to Northeastern State University and the Graduate College by submitting an application and official transcripts to the Graduate College
  • Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale in all undergraduate coursework attempted or a 3.0 GPA based on a 4.0 scale in the major of the bachelor's degree

Students learn theory and research relevant to nursing practice and public health practice to promote and preserve the health of populations. Students finalize their thesis or capstone project under faculty supervision. The thesis or capstone project will be presented and defended. Students prepare for dissemination of their work for a broader audience, complete a portfolio, and consider plans for post-graduate studies. Students must re-enroll if the thesis or capstone project is not successfully presented and defended. Course may be repeated twice if additional time is needed. Prerequisite: Complete MSN core courses and 12 hours specialization courses. Concurrent enrollment allowed. Restrictions: Admission into the Master’s of Science in Nursing Degree Program. Completion of 200 hours of practicum, submission of the capstone final draft, and instructor approval. Note: May be repeated for a total of six credit hours.

Students work with a preceptor and a faculty mentor to develop and practice competencies in their selected nursing option. The capstone proposal is completed and section drafts are submitted. Students must re-enroll in the course until 200 practicum hours are completed and the capstone proposal final draft is submitted. May be repeated for up to four credit hours. Credit Hours: 1-4 Other contact hours per week: Varies Prerequisite: NURS 5213 Cultural Competency: Regional and Global Perspectives, NURS 5293 Advanced Research and Evidence Based Practice for Health Professionals, and at least 6-credit hours of specialization courses. Restrictions: Students must complete the credentialing process, a preceptor agreement, and have an approved facility contract prior to receiving permission to enroll. Note: May be repeated for a total of four credit hours.

Students will learn transition strategies to be successful in the MSN Program and online learning. Students explore strategies for the successful participation in an online curriculum. Students also will receive a foundation for academic and professional success through scholarship of writing and as social change agents. Restrictions: Admission to the Masters of Nursing Program or faculty approval.
